To have a long career as an artist in the music industry it helps to have a lot of talent, big vocal and style range, and great songs. Amanda Wilson has these in abundant supply. Her debut CD, Small Town Girl, fully demonstrates what this talented newcomer can do. A modern country style mixed with a little rock and a little blues give this CD everything the listener needs to appreciate Amanda's talent.

Throughout the album, Amanda shows her vocal range from lower to higher notes. She hits them all, with excellent control. Each song is unique in its own right. A lot of the songs touch on everyday people and their lives, but there is enough variety in subjects and style to make sure the CD does not become repetitive. Although you know the songs are from the same singer, you certainly don't feel like you're listening to the same song over and over again.

The album's title track is one of the best numbers on the CD. It is a very country number about a woman who grew up in a small town and lived the small town life, but she always knew it was not for her - she wanted more. Eventually, she leaves the small town to pursue her dreams. A similar theme can be found in "The Chance," which was also performed by newcomer Julie Roberts. Julie's version was excellent and Amanda's is just as good, if not better. Amanda's version is a little more country and fits nicely with her voice. "Hurts Don't It" is another outstanding track both lyrically and vocally. Throughout all of these songs, Amanda infuses the lyrics with strong emotion, helping you to feel the song as if it was telling your story.

Amanda easily handles the up-tempo numbers as well. "Hands on You" is a fun number about a woman who has seen the man she wants and is going after him. Once she has him, he'll be happy she got her hands on him. "What's Wrong With You" is a little darker in style and takes a similar theme, this time looking at a guy who seems to be perfect. The only thing wrong with him is that he doesn't have her!

"Who Will the Next Fool Be" is a bluesy number that showcases Amanda's range and talent. Her voice is great as country music, but she's pretty good at the blues numbers as well!

Amanda Wilson should be a household name. Her talent is unquestionable and with this first CD, she seems to be on her way. If you love music, this is an album to have in your collection.
